  • Exclusion wildcard searches

    Quick question:

I know you can use "*" to signify "any characters" and "?" to be a wildcard for a single character, but can you search for one keyword and NOT another, like "Ali !Clay" to get pages that have the word "Ali" but NOT "Clay" on them? And if so, what's the character to use, because "!" and "NOT" don't work.

Exclusion searches are one of the new features in the upcoming Version 4.2 release. This allows you to perform searches like "Ali -Clay" by using the negative sign to precede the search term that you wish to exclude.

A beta version of 4.2 is currently available at:
    http://www.wrensoft.com/ftp/zoomsearch4_2_beta1.exe

Note for future readers of this post - the above link will become unavailable when the final version is released (or as newer builds are introduced).

E-mail us if you have any bug reports/questions regarding this beta.

Excellent. I'll look forward to using this feature.

Thanks for the beta link. Do you have a bug tracking submission process if we're able to break the beta?

I do not see it in the release notes or the Help pdf. Did it make it into 4.2? I hope so.

Yes. See the whats new page:
          http://www.wrensoft.com/zoom/whatsnew.html

It's also mentioned on the Zoom front page. But yes, it lacks a mention in the Users Guide, and we'll address that soon.
