  • Weightings by URL

Hello - New to Zoom and trying to get a handle on all the options.

I'm using the Spider option to index our documentation site and would like to be able to adjust the weighting on results based on the URL. For example I would like results from www.abc.com/documentation to rank higher than www.abc.com/archived/documentation.

    Tx

There's a few ways to achieve this.

    1) Separate these folders into different start points by clicking on the "More" button next to your Start Spider URL. Note that start points are indexed in order, so you should have the "deeper" directories higher in the list*. Click on the "Edit" button and you can specify the Weighting for each start point.

*In other words: if www.abc.com is the first start point, all folders within the domain will be indexed, and by the time it gets to a secondary start point of www.abc.com/documentation, it would've already been indexed and that start point will be ignored).

So in your example, I would have a first start point of:

    http://www.abc.com/archived/documentation

With a weighting of, say, -3 Deboost

And then a start point of:

    http://www.abc.com/documentation

With a weighting of +5 Boost (for example)

And finally, the last start point should be:

    http://www.abc.com

To index all the remaining pages on the web site.

    2) Alternatively, you can place the ZOOMPAGEBOOST meta tags on the relevant pages individually that you wish to deboost its weighting.
