Special characters

I have special characters on my site, I previously used – for dash and now I am using –.
I have selected windows-1252 for encoding.
The dash appears on the site, the issue is when I search for a word with dash, the search includes spaces between the dash. If I search for abc-de(this is how I have it on my site) it will not find it. But if I search for abc - de it will display the results. How can I fix this?

This is a similar problem to your other thread here. You should enable "Hyphens" to join words under "Configure"->"Indexing options".
