  • Results as advanced autocomplete

Recently on more and more websites I witness more advanced form of autocomplete which yields actual results. I find it modern and very user friendly and would love to have it on my sites. ZoomSearch has most of the necessary backend. But I believe there is no way for me to achieve this without modifying source right?

What would need to be done:
    1. Separate results template to cascade categories
    2. Loading with javascript (ajax)
    3. Settings for categories to set maximum number of items to be shown and display type settings

If something like this made it into v7 I wouldn't mind at all

Autocomplete is actually a new feature in V7, you can play with it in the V7 alpha release that is currently available:

Note the advice on installation and the safety precautions with backups, etc. We are still working on the alpha release and alot of things can change.

There isn't category grouping like you see in that screenshot at the moment. Our autocomplete uses the statistics search log (or the manually pre-suggested keywords) to determine what to show.
