  • Value in ZOOMSTOPFOLLOW tags?

    [ZOOM V6, JavaScript mode]

We have multiple links in our help system (over 10,000 links among more than 2,000 pages). What does that mean if we're not using the *FOLLOW blocking tags?
    • Is that one page being indexed multiple times?
    • Is the page with a link being associated with the page it's linking to?

I'm investigating this because I'd like to reduce the volume of indexing, if possible, as the size of our online help keeps increasing. However, adding these blocking tags will require a serious amount of work, and I want to ensure a valid ROI. Otherwise, I'll leave it alone.

    Thx,
    Leon

Zoom would only ever index any one page just once.

Unless the same page gets served via different URLs - though there are measures to prevent that too (CRC duplicate detection, etc.).

So there's no need to use ZOOMSTOPFOLLOW tags in that manner. That's only necessary to avoid certain links from being indexed all together (e.g. if you have a Calendar module with links to "Next Month" or "Next Year" and it goes back/foward forever) or where it's not easy to exclude with the Skip Pages list.

      Thx, Ray

That saves me a lot of unnecessary labor.
