  • Won't index Chinese pages

I'm sure there is a simple reason for this but I can't get it to index my Chinese pages.

If I put this url as the start point
    http://www.e-yaji.com/chi/
    it indexes just 2 pages

The English side of the site (which is all but identical in navigation and page numbers) has 1,500 odd pages (now that I've sorted out the zoomstop to bring it down from 65,000 pages!)

    TIA

ah, I have a DHTML menu. i have added the noscprit to the home page and will try again. I'd be interested to know why the english page was indexed fine though.

I think the reaons is becuase you have selected http://www.e-yaji.com/chi/ as the start point and base URL.

Becuase you includes /chi/ as part of the base URL, only files in the folder will be indexed.

Looking at your site however I can see that almost all of the links from the start page lead to folders outside of the /chi/ folder, and so are skipped.

You could adjust the base URL to be just http://www.e-yaji.com/ to avoid this.

This issue has nothing to do with there being Chinese text on the page.

it was the DHTML menu rather than the base url stopping further indexing.

Glad to hear it's resolved. For the benefit of anybody else coming upon this thread, this FAQ addresses spidering issues with Javascript/DHTML menus:
          Q. Why are links in my Javascript menus being skipped?
