  • Including subdmains

(I think) I've read all the help and forum posts on this topic...

We have a domain and a sub-domain that need to index together.

I've tried entering this in the "start spider from" field as:

    http://www.site.com/;http://sub.site.com/

    ... above causes an error.

What works is the following. (However, I've found that for each new crawl I need to remove and re-enter the URLs):

I click the start "spider from | more" and enter both domain URLs.

That doesn't seem right. After a save configuration, shouldn't I be able to re-run crawls without re-entering this stuff?

Thanks. So far, looks like an excellent product.

You you want to index multiple web sites (or subdomains) then click on the more button in the "start options" configuration window and enter in the list of URLs.

To save the configuration select "Save Configuration" from the File menu.

You've mistook the instructions for "Base URL" if you entered that into your "Start URL" field.

If you have a site which links to a subdomain as in the above, then you can have a single start point with a Start URL of:
      http://www.site.com/

And a Base URL setting of:
      http://www.site.com/;http://sub.site.com/

Provided the starting site (www.site.com) has hypertext links which allow the crawler to follow and index the subdomain (sub.site.com).

If the two sites are not well linked in this fashion, then you will need to use multiple start points (clicking on the "More" button, etc.)

Make sure you are loading the same configuration file that you saved your changes to. If you find that you have lost your changes, then you probably saved to a different ZCFG file than what you are using.
