  • Problems with Zoom Search

I have an earlier version of Zoom Search at http://www.genealogybuff.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi that works fine. Never have had a problem with it.

However, I just purchased the latest Zoom Search and have not been able to get it to work with CGI or PHP. The files are of similar sizes to the older version so it shouldn't be a server limit issue. The new search is at http://www.genealogybuff.com/cgi-bin/lib/search.cgi

A PHP test is at http://www.ssdi-search.com/search.php and it is not working. All of the permissions are 755.

    Any advice?

By the way, I host with Globat and Godaddy.
    Thanks,

The CGI is returning the error, "Error: out of memory. Failed to load dictionary file". So I would assume that the error is correct and that the server is implementing some type of limit regarding how much RAM you can use.

The think the PHP script is suffering a simailar fate. See this old post for details.

The new version can use more memory due to the fact that Stemming is enabled by default. If you need to reduce/minimize memory usage, you can turn off Stemming on the "Languages" panel of the Configuration tab. But it would probably be best if you address the memory limit issue.

Thanks for that tip. Actually, in my particular search, stemming isn't necessary because most people search for a surname or a proper name. I'll turn it off and see how PHP works afterward. Thanks.

I have about 5900 pages that are being indexed, about 370,000 unique words.

I tried turning off the stemming and indexed but it didn't help, either. I get Internal Errors...

You can either give us FTP access to the folder where Zoom is installed and we'll investigate.

Otherwise if you don't want to do that, I would try running the test script in this old post.
