  • Default Sort Order

    Two questions:

    1 - Is it possible to change the default sort order i.e., to "Sort by Date"?
    2 - Is it possible to change the words "Sort by Date" on the search template to something else?

    Please advise.

    1.) Just link to your search page with an extra "?zoom_sort=1" parameter. For example, elsewhere on your site, you must have a "Search" link that goes to your search page, say "http://www.mysite.com/search.php".

    Change this link to be "http://www.mysite.com/search.php?zoom_sort=1"
    and now your search page would be defaulted to "sort by date" whenever your visitors access your search page.

    2.) Yes, you can change all the text that appears on the search page via the Language files. See chapter 7.1 in the Users Guide.

        More to the Story...

        1. After changing the term "Sort by Date" to "Sort by Paper:Sec.Par" the sort defaultorderreverted to "Sort by Relevance" despite the inclusion of the extra "?zoom_sort=1" parameter

        2. After clicking the term "Sort by Paper:Sec.Par" this term reverts back to "Sorted by date"

        Please advise further...

        Thank you

          Can you give us the URL to the search page? Perhaps you made a mistake in adding this. Remember pages may be cached by the browser. Changing the text won't have any effect on the way it handles the parameter.

          That's most likely because you only modified the text for "Sort by date" and you didn't modify the text for "Sorted by date". In the language file there are at least 4 relevant entries:

          Code:
          STR_SORTEDBY_RELEVANCE=Sorted by relevance
          STR_SORTBY_RELEVANCE=Sort by relevance
          STR_SORTBY_DATE=Sort by date
          STR_SORTEDBY_DATE=Sorted by date
          Check if you forgot to change the last line.
