  • Double Category Entry

In the zoom program, I have setup my categories. When I goto my search age at http://www.animalmakers.com/Search/ I get a listing of categories, but "Catalog" is listed twice.

Why? It is not that way in the category section of my Zoom program.

The categories configuration in Zoom must be wrong.

Can you post what you have entered into the Zoom configuration window.

I assume you have already read the section on categories in the Users Guide?

      How can it be wrong?

On the categories tab, I have categories enabled.

Nevermind. The image I have linked to should speak for itself. this is a screen capture of my categories setting.

You have the category name, "Online catalog" appearing twice in the configuration window. This would cause it to appear twice in your search form.

Maybe you should change the default category to something like, "Other documents" or "Misc. pages".

If I put "Misc Pages" in the default category space, then "Misc Pages" will be an option on the pull down menu for the search box?

If they select that and search, what will the search results be?

I do not want anything in the "Category" pulldown menu except what I have added already. Why do I need a default category setting anyway. The default is already set to "All" on the search engine.

You have misunderstood the purpose of the default category. Note the text above your category list in the Configuration window:

Note that files indexed which do not belong to these categories will belong to the default category
When categories are enabled, every file must belong to one category exclusively. The "default category" is for files which were not found to qualify for any of the specified categories. This is why a suitable default category name would be something like "Misc." or "Other".

You should not specify the name of an existing category here.

If your categories specified would not group all the files on your website (that is, it is possible for some files to not belong to your existing category patterns), then you will need a default category like "Other webpages".

If you wish to only have the categories that you have already specified, then you will need to make sure that every file will belong to a suitable category, and remove the last category from the list, making it the default. For example, assuming (from your screenshot) that ALL the indexed files from your website will fit one of the 5 patterns you have specified, then you can remove "Services" from the list, and specify this as the "Default category name".

            Hope that clears things up.

D'Oh (I seem to be saying this a lot lately). I did totally misunderstand the meaning of "default category". Thank you for the explanation.
