  • Missing Characters And Spaces In Search Results

Hi, I'm evaluating the free version at present. I have highlighting on and if I search a date i.e. 15/12/2002 the forward slashes are not highlighted in the result. The search query reads: search results for: 15 12 2002 leaving spaces where the forward slash should be. Also the search formatting result text is leaving a space either side of the forward slashes like this 15 / 12 / 2002 instead of 15/12/2002.

Also I have noticed if I have some text enclosed in brackets it puts a character space before a closing bracket ) in the search formatted page result. I.E. (local schools ). I have checked my html code and there are no before the ) character.

And if my search query is: http: no results are found, yet if my search query is: http the search will find results and display them like this e.g. http // www.mywebsite.com omitting the colon and adding an empty character space after the two forward slashes. Again I have checked my webpages html code and the colon is there in all my weblinks text. I don't know why it is inserting these spaces where they shouldn't be and overlooking certain characters. Maybe I'm missing something in the configuration.

    Any help would be appreciated.

This is normal and expected behaviour. The context description in Zoom is intended as a representation of the context that the matched word was found in - it is not an identical extraction of the page text. The data is also highly compressed, and spacing information is dropped in the process. This does not affect the accuracy of your actual searches returned.

That's ok - but you didn't explain why Zoom omits the forward slash in my search query [15/12/2002] to this: Search results for: 15 12 2002.

Is this something that will be addressed in Version 5?

Yes, we're adding "Slashes" to the word join character options (in the "Indexing Options" tab of the Configuration window) in the upcoming Version 5.0 (which is currently looking at a release around August).

When this option is enabled, it will allow Zoom to index "1/2", "either/or" or "1\2" as one word and not splitted into two.
