  • Problems with abbreviated words

In my search logs I note that if someone does a search where a word includes the period/stop symbol no results are displayed.

The search in question is for sault st. marie

If the search is for sault st marie the results are displayed correctly.

Is there a way to avoid this (perhaps I have missed something in the manual) or should I include some help text for those performing the searches?

    Thanks,

    John

In the Configuration window, click the "Indexing Options" tab and uncheck the option for "Dots". This prevents dots from being treated as a word joining character, and should allow a search for "st. peter" to find "st peter", etc.

Note: You will need to reindex your website for this change to take effect. You may also want to save the configuration change once you've confirmed that it works as you would like.

      Hi Ray.

Guessed it would probably be something I had overlooked!

      Thanks for the quick reply.
