    Hello,

we purchased the professional version of the search engine.

Is it possible to to sort the results by the type of the file?
We want to have the results from html/shtml - pages at the top.
Others (pdf, ppt, doc and so on) shall appear later.

We tried to add the ZOOMPAGEBOOST - meta tag to the file, but this does not influence the results.

    Is there any other possibility?

    Thanks for help,
    André

There is no built-in feature which specifically sorts results by file types.

ZOOMPAGEBOOST increases the weighting of words found on a page. This increases the calculated relevance of a page when it matches a search word. However, it does not mean it will force the page to be above all PDF files etc. if they are still considered more relevant despite the boost. This is quite common because PDF documents tend to contain many pages of information.

Instead, you should try changing the "Content density" boosting (found in the Configuration window, under the "Indexing Options" tab). This gives preference to small/medium sized documents and prevents large documents such as PDF and DOC files from "swamping" the results. Change this setting to "Strong adjustment", and you should find a significant improvement in having more of your HTML pages appear further up the top of the results.

      Hi Ray,

i tried, what you suggested. But it has no influence in our results:
The weights are not changing if i change the content density.

We are using JavaScript - is this the reason?

      Thx for help,

Did you make sure to re-index your content after changing the setting?

You should also take a look at the "Score:" for each search result, and compare the higher ranked PDF files to the HTML files you are trying to boost. You should note that changing the above settings (re: ZOOMPAGEBOOST and Content Density boost) should have affected the original scoring. However, if the gap between the original scores are too big (eg. your PDF file originally has a score of 2000 and your HTML file has a score of 1), then it is possible that the boosting may not help much. In these cases, you would be better off adding meta keywords to the HTML page to increase its significance.

If you are still confused, you can zip up your search files and e-mail them to us, and we can take a look.
