  • Server 500 Error - Different Domain Name

I am testing my server. My normal server is www.domain.com. The index tool has the www.domain.com as the base domain and the domain to spider.

My test server is dev.domain.com. I have not reindexed the site under the dev.domain.com. i.e. it has all the dat files for the www.domain.com.

Will this cause a server 500 error for no response headers sent?

    thank you.

All your search results will link to www.domain.com (the URL that was spidered). So it should not cause a 500 error unless your live server is unavailable. It just means that your links will be leaving the dev.domain.com site.

I am moving to a new hosting company and am chasing down a server 500 error with the cgi approach. Wanted to remove that as a possible issue.

      thank you.

There's a FAQ here for HTTP 500 errors for the CGI version:
        http://www.wrensoft.com/zoom/support...gi_servererror

The most common causes are detailed there (including: permission issues, wrong OS selected, or the server is configured to handle .cgi as perl scripts)
