Search only picking up words on index page - no title or...

I am trying out the free version to see if I (never done this before) can get ZOOM to work on a personal site I have before I attempt it on a client's site.

I am using the Javascript option. I have one section that is named Shawnee Books (in the title). It did not pick this up nor the titles of other pages I searched for.

I am new so I probably did not check something correctly. I checked FAQs but did not find anything there. I am excited as I think this is going to work for me once I learn the program.

It is more than likely that you have not yet configured the Indexer to locate all the pages of your site successfully. In fact, after a quick test, I noticed that you have only indexed the first page of your site. This is why no other pages are being found in your search results.

I presume that you are using Spider mode in Zoom. Take a look at this FAQ:

Your website depends on Javascript menus to link to different pages. This is not spider friendly and it is the reason why Zoom could not find any other pages to index. See the above URL for solutions to this.

An alternative would be to use Offline mode to index a copy of your website on your local hard disk. This would not have the same problem because it would simply scan all files under a certain folder. See the Users Guide for more info:

We would also recommend looking at using the PHP or ASP options. Javascript is not ideal for a search engine on a website and should be a last resort if your web host does not provide support for the other scripting options. See the Users Guide again for more information.

Site map

Create a site map page that contains real (non-javascript) links to all the pages on your site. Point Zoom to this page and it will spider from there. Our site used javascript navigation and we had to create a site map. Another benefit of a site map is that google will also be able to spider through your site.

I am waiting to hear from my ISP about the PSP and ASP. They have not been too responsive. Hope they call me today. I will post once I get this.

I am going to use CGI - I have found that it works. I have been creating a site map as Broman suggested. I have never created one before. Do I still list the main index page as the Base URL? Then the spider crawls throughout the site picking up all pages and the site map insures nothing is missed?

If someone could take a look - Will this site map work? www.attinc.com/metrology-sitemap.html Grateful for any input.

That sitemap should be fine. Yes, you should specify the sitemap URL in the "Start spider from this URL" field. The base URL can remain as "http://www.attinc.com/".

You should be able to use ANY of the Zoom platforms, since your host says they support ASP, PHP, and CGI.

The CGI version is indeed the fastest and probably the best way to go for you.
