  • Different title, different description

    Hi,

    I bought your software several months ago and built a search engine http://ww.szookacz.pl
    I have indexed about 40 000 unique URLs but encountered some problem. Each time I am uploading more than 20 000 URLs my zoom_titles and zoom_descriptions are in some cases ordered to wrong URLs. I always upload with zoom search software and with PSV mode checked. I have tried everything so far but didn't manage to cope this problem.

    Here are some examples of problem :
    http://www.szookacz.pl/szukaj.shtml?zoom_query=reklama
    -> check the first result, the title is from different URL

    http://www.szookacz.pl/szukaj.shtml?zoom_query=promocja
    -> 4th result, same situation

    I'd appreciate your help.

    Are you are using the PHP, ASP or CGI version? We noticed that you have embedded the search function within a "szukaj.shtml" file, and we can not determine your platform for certain (we think it's PHP). If it is PHP, have you made any changes to the search script (ie: search.php)?

    It is most likely that changes were made to "search.php" which may have broken some functionality. If this is the case, you can recover the default "search.php" by backing up your changes, and reinstalling Zoom.

    Another interesting note was that we couldn't find a "search_template.html", it was being handled by an URL ReWrite which sent us to the search page looking for the keyword "search_template". Because of this, we could not confirm the content of this file. If this file is indeed not being used, then some changes must have been made to the script or ZDAT files.

    If you have reverted back to the default script and ZDAT files without modifications, and the problem persists, please let us know. You should also ZIP up your settings.php, search.php and search_template.html and send them to us via e-mail (see Contact Us page).

      Hi Ray,

      Thanks for answering. So here's some information. I am using CGI version and it works on FreeBSD platform. Because of the fact I am using the script to create a search engine I had to make some changes to adjust it to my needs. Instead of search_template.html I used search_template.php where I am able to include different things. I am also using SSI (szukaj.shtml) for 'include virtual' function. I haven't made any changes in search.cgi nor i any other .zdat file. I only changed search_template.html for search_template.php and created SSI file szukaj.shtml which defines the layout of SE and enables me to include other things. I am using rewrites for creating search engine friendly urls. I will try to upload everything onece again in basic version (without adjusting to my layout) and chceck whether the results are ok, if not I will send you those data you mentioned.

        You can not (and should not need to) change the template to "search_template.php". Are you sure you can not do the same things in your SSI file alone?

        This is important because in order for you to make this change, you modified the "settings.zdat" file. This is not recommended (in fact, the file is marked "DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE" at the top). Modifying this file is likely to cause unexpected behaviour because there are important values in here which may have changed since your last indexing. This is especially likely if you are keeping your modified copy of "settings.zdat" and using it with newer index files. You must use ALL the ZDAT files from the same indexing session.

        Try using the unmodified "settings.zdat" file which is created by Zoom after re-indexing, and see if the same behaviour occurs. If so, please send this unmodified settings file, from your most recent indexing to us.
