  • Common word not found in Swedish

    Hi

When searching on a word I get a message that the word is to common. But I want the searchresults displaid. Shall I change in the Limit tab and Optimatzion to Default or perhaps Slow?

      Found the reason

When searching for "Åstol" (upper-case Å) I get results but searching for "åstol" (lower-case å) then I get a message that the word is to common. Seems to be the same problem with the letters ä and ö.
åäö/ÅÄÖ is in the Swedish alphabet.

Upper and lowercase conversion for non-Unicode character sets are tricky. A lot of it depends on the regional and locale settings of the server in question and even then it will often not work as locale names vary on different platforms.

You best bet is to switch over to use UTF-8 for your search page. You can do this by changing the charset of your search_template.html and also the "Encoding" setting on the "Languages" tab of the Configuration window in the Indexer.

Alternatively, you can simply turn on accent/diacritic insensitivity. This will make "Åstol" the same as "åstol" and "aastol", and allow you to keep the search page in your current charset.
