Windows 2k cgi index. System has been working fine. but now after submitting a search instead of results I get 'Error in wordmap - pagenumber is invalid"

You most likely have a corrupted set of index files.
This can happen if you are uploading the files manually (using a third party FTP program) and it is uploading the files in Text mode, instead of Binary mode. All search files must be uploaded in binary.
Another possibility is if you are mixing index files from different sessions. All ZDAT files (including settings.zdat) must be from the same indexing session. Using a mixture of files from different sessions will lead to unexpected behaviour such as this error.
Third possibility is if you have modified any of the ZDAT files in any way.
