  • Newbe Question - search box on home page

    This product looking interesting. First question is can I put the search box on my homepage or do I have to have an independant "search" page?

    Also, I am assuming that all my site's pages will come up regardless of the fact that they are indexed by search engines. I am playing with google search engine widget and that is the case - so what's the point? I want to be able to show all of my pages.

    You can certainly put the search box on the homepage (or any page) of your site (like we do on www.wrensoft.com)

    See this FAQ:
    Q. How do I add search boxes to my web pages?

    I'm not completely sure what you mean by your second question. If you mean whether Zoom is dependent on any external search engines such as Google, then the answer is no. Zoom lets you control what files to index, regardless of what pages have or have not been indexed by external search engines.

    So, you can definitely make sure Zoom will index all of your site's pages. However, if your site is not particularly spider friendly then it may take a bit of extra configuring to make it find all your pages (if using Spider Mode). If you use Offline Mode, you won't have this problem.

    Zoom lets you control all aspects of indexing, so you can make sure all your pages are included in the index, and they can be updated immediately, as required, which Google does not provide (outside of their hardware rack solutions).

      About your question, this is the simple form (see manual, page 96):

      <form method="GET" action="search.php">
      <input type="text" name="zoom_query" size="10">
      <input type="submit" value="Search">
      </form>

      About indexed content, you won't have the problem that you already have using google's tool. I was a customer for google, but because the lack of support and content indexing, I asked for refund.

      As Ray says, working as Offline Mode, Zoom will index all content configured by you.
