search on Custom 404 Error page

I tried to add a search zoom search on a custom error page 404.shtml
the search box links to my search page but does not transmit any search words to run a search. I do not get the text "no results found". I just get my search results page with no results.
I am using php version. What am I missing?

You should first refer to this FAQ:
    Q. How do I put search forms on pages besides the search page? (Or define my own search form?)

Presuming that you have followed those instructions, you should make sure your HTML is valid, and you do not have, for example, a <form> tag within another <form> tag. Also check that your target= link in your search form is correct.

If you still have problems, can you give us a URL to your custom page and we can take a look.
