Excluding root URLS

Hello, got a bit of a basic question but I'm not sure how to do it. I assume you accomplish it with the Filter option under Configure, but I'm not sure how to exactly.

OK I have:

http://myurl.com

and:

http://myurl.com/links

I want Zoom to index the links sub-directory but skip over my "home" link (which points to http://myurl.com)

Are you using Spider Mode?

You can just set you start URL to be http://myurl.com/links/ to begin with, in which case, the base URL would be http://myurl.com/links/ and any links back to your root domain would be considered "external" and not indexed.

If you can't start spidering from there, you can just change your base URL accordingly. Look in the Users Guide for a more thorough explanation of the base URL, and tell us if you have any questions.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

I tried what you mentioned here, but it treats the root URL as an internal link and indexes it as well. Its not the end of the world, I set the URL as a variable and then delete it for the search, but I figured there has to be a better way.

Note that there's an important distinction between a start URL of http://myurl.com/links and http://myurl.com/links/ (note the ending slash).

With the ending slash, Zoom will automatically determine the base URL as http://myurl.com/links/. Without it, the URL may be referring to a file with no file extension, named "links" at the root level of the domain, and so it will think the base URL is http://myurl.com/

The important thing is to check what the "base URL" field is set to. It is automatically determined for you, but you can also change it by clicking on "More"->"Edit".
