multiple returns for the same page

I noticed one of my sites was creating a 'it's all out of date' error thing .. so I opened up Zoom, refreshed the search and uploaded.

I was using v4xxx Pro and just updated to v5.xxx Pro .. but it's made no difference .. doing a search returns dozens of the same page. So where I might expect 5 pages returned I get 200 !

it may well be I have something mis-set in the configuration .. but this didn't happen previously.

Any ideas?

Are you uploading the search files yourself? It sounds like your first error might have been due to you mixing index files from different sessions and different versions. Giving us the exact error might also help.

And you said that updating to V5 (which version and build specifically here would also, again, be helpful) had "made no difference" - but that it actually returns more results - whereas your first problem would indicate it returned no results? Can you confirm that there is actually a difference in behaviour here? This is to help us work out whether you have two problems here, or just one, as it is not all that clear.

Regarding the duplicate pages problem, there are a number of possible causes if you are using spider mode. For example:
- You have URLs to the same pages with different upper or lower casing
- You have URLs to the same pages with different HTTP GET parameters added to the end of it (common with session IDs, etc, eg. http://www.mysite.com/mypage.asp?sid=1293012 and
http://www.mysite.com/mypage.asp?sid=234849 may actually be the same page)

Note that a spider can technically only tell if a page is different based on its URL or the actual content. If the actual content is 100% identical, you can use the CRC duplicate page detection feature ("Configure"->"Scan Pages").

If none of that helps, give us a URL to your actual search page and we can see for ourselves what the problem is.
