Documents outclassing html in results

We've installed version 5.0 build 1008 of the search and it's great so far, but we're having problems on one site. We have a folder full of pdf and word documents (which we cannot exclude) but they consistently outrank the asp pages in the search results, relegating them to the second or third page of results. Is there anything we can do? The weighting system is all set to normal but I've changed it around and can't seem to get the asp pages to rank higher.

Have you tried changing the "Content density" setting to "Strong adjustment" (on the "Weightings" tab of the Configuration window)? This will give priority to smaller sized documents over large documents and was designed to address this issue specifically. It should fix or help the problem in most cases.
