  • Initiate Indexing from Web Page

What is the best method for initiating indexing from a web page? I'd like to have a link within an admin tool so a user can start re-indexing the documents after documents have been added or deleted. Is the Enterprise Edition console mode required?

    Thank you

You will need to have the Indexer installed on the web server, which means that the web server must be running Windows. Also note that there is a license required for each machine that the Indexer is installed on (see this FAQ for information).

Depending on the script or implementation of your admin tool, there are various ways to do this. An ASP script for example can be coded to execute the Indexer with a pre-specified configuration file. See this FAQ on command-line parameters for more information. You can do this without console mode, but this would cause the GUI to appear (on the web server's screen only), and you would have to post-process the index log file written to disk to determine causes of error, etc. With console mode, Zoom's GUI will not appear, and you will be able to parse the output/progress from stdout as indexing occurs.
