  • Recommended links for "no results"

Is there a way to display recommended links when someone searches for a term that comes up with "no results"?

    ---
Also, a feature that I would love to see on the next version of Zoom Search is an option to be able to designate the top ten search results (in a specific order) for a specific search term.

    ---
I am new to Zoom Search and just went live with the Zoom Search on my site. I am very impressed with it! Great software!

There is currently no built-in feature to display recommended links when zero results are returned. However, Zoom can provide Spelling Suggestions when less than a certain number of results are found ("Configure"->"Search Page"->"Provide spelling suggestions when less than ...").

I think you can already do this? You can have 10 different recommended links for the same search term, and specify Zoom to show up to 10 recommended links.

Also - thanks for the positive comments!

      Thanks for the quick reply!

Hmmm. We run multiple ecommerce websites and what I am trying to do is if a customer searches for a word or phrase that displays "no results", have a link to our master website search so that we don't lose the sale. Can you see any way to do this with Zoom?

Also on the option to be able to designate the top ten search results (in a specific order) for a specific search term, I can see how you would do this with recommended links. What I was looking for is a way to order the normal search results for specific terms, because we use images in our search results and some products are more important than others for a specific search term.

Thanks again for a great product and great support!

The easiest option is to add a comment at the end (or start) of your search template page, saying something like "If you can not find what you are looking for, click here to search the master website" or something similar. By placing this comment after your ZOOMSEARCH tag, it means that it will appear at the bottom of your search results - which, if no results were found, would be high up on the page. Of course, this means it will always appear even when results are found (although only at the bottom of the page) - it's one option to consider anyway.

The recommended links were designed to allow users to specify forced ranked results for certain search queries. It is quite a complicated and impractical process to force ranking of the actual search results, so we would like to stay with this designed usage.

We have previously considered allowing users to specify an image/thumbnail URL for each recommended link. Perhaps this would be enough to allow you to achieve what you're after?

Note that the order of the recommended links as they appear in the Configuration window specifies the order of their priority. The big arrowed buttons on the right of the list allows you to move the links up/down in priority.

The logic for displaying a specific is there when no results are found.

Can I modify the English.zlang file,
          [STR_SUMMARY_NO_RESULTS_FOUND=No results found.]
and add html or php to this line of code?

Or could I talk with Wrensoft about the cost to customize a solution for this?

          ---
The ability to specify an image/thumbnail URL for each recommended link would be awesome.

Actually, that will do the trick just fine, and will allow you to change/add a message and link to appear when no results are found. Good thinking! I've forgotten about the ability to customize the ZLANG files - it must have slipped my mind. Good thing you thought of it
