  • PDF Security Item

Hi - we have a number of PDF's that we are trying to index. These have security that allows them to open without a password but can't be changed without a password. The PDF Plugin reports that it can't access the file due to Adobe Security. Would be good it it could read these files since the only security we have in place is to prevent the changing of these files.

Love your product by the way!

    This is explained here:
    http://www.wrensoft.com/zoom/support...tml#pdf_limits

Basically, while you may be able to view the file in Acrobat Reader, the security setting may restrict any other application from extracting text out of it - which is what Zoom needs to do in order to index the document. You can check this by clicking on "File"->"Properties"->"Security" in Acrobat Reader. There are several different security settings which would apply in our usage, namely, "Content Copying" and "Page Extraction".

However, the good news is that you should be able to just simply enter in the password you use to secure the documents, into Zoom's configuration for indexing PDF files. Click on "Configure" in the Zoom Indexer, select the "Scan options" tab and double-click on the ".pdf" extension. Then under "Security options", check the box for "Use following password to decrypt and index protected PDF files" and enter in your password.

Thanks. Your product (and FAQ) is so thorough I should have guessed that such an obvious item would have been addressed. Obviously I was myopic to the Configure button. Works a charm now.

      Thanks again.
