  • Spider + Offline, When?

    Hi,

We have an installation with files in multiple places across network drives , and a number of seperate spider web addresses which need to be read.

How (or when) can I get an indexing operation to run on files and spider to create one index?

I have the latest version of your software....

    Thx,
    M

You can't index some files in spider mode and some files in offline mode and have the result in the same set of index files.

So you'll need to make all the documents accessible via a web server, or make all the documents accessible via the file system (to use offline mode).

Spidering multiple web sites in spider mode is no problem. Indexing multiple folders (including network folders) is also no problem.

Other option would be to create two sets of index files and have two search functions. One search for offline content and another for online content.

Yet another option would be to create two sets of index files and combine the search outputs using a search aggregator like MasterNode

You might also want to look at using the "Scan files linked via file:// URLs in spider mode" option (found on the Scan Options tab of the Configuration window).

This allows you to use the Spider Mode to index offline pages, provided the spider finds hypertext links to your offline pages in the form of "file://" URLs, eg. "file://mymachine/shared_files/news/mydocument.pdf"
