Unless I have missed something, is there any way to remove recommended links from sitemap creation? I have some off-site recommended links, but these of course do not work as a Google sitemap because of a domain name discrepancy.

At the moment, all Recommended Links are included in the Sitemap. The idea was that the Recommended Links could be used to refer to pages within your own site, which you may not have linked to, but are legitimate pages on your site.
But you are right that if you have Recommended Links to external sites, they will also appear in the sitemap, which is not desirable.
We will probably have to add a feature to either toggle on/off this behaviour, or simply only include URLs which qualify within the base URL domain name to be included in the Google/XML Sitemap.

We've decided to address this in the next build release (5.0.1006) by excluding any URLs which do not match the "Sitemap Base URL".
This means that the sitemap will only contain URLs belonging to the Sitemap Base URL and will exclude any URLs indexed by having multiple start points, or by having Recommended Links to other domain names. It will however, include Recommended Links which are within the same domain name.
