Can the output directory be the same as the start directory when indexing locally?

I plan to always index locally and FTP the results to the website. Can the output directory be the same as the start directory when indexing locally? That makes it a little easier to manually FTP the files to website.

Yes, this is OK.
Just to keep things tidy we would normally suggest creating a "search" sub-folder. But this isn't mandatory.
