Upgrading

I am thinking about upgrading from v6 to v7, but install in a separate directory whilst testing and getting it the way I want. Can I use the file zoom.zcfg from v6 in v7 to save doing all the settings again?

You can have V7 install along side V6. V7 can also load V6 configuration files. However, one thing to take caution is that once a V6 configuration file is opened/saved in V7, V6 will no longer being to use it. So make a backup of your configuration of V6 in case you need to go back to it.
