Zoom skipping files

I am using Zoom to index approx 500 MsWord documents (.doc and .docx) contained in one directory. I reindex the directory each time I add a document. Frequently, but not always, Zoom skips a majority of the documents. For instance, sometimes it produces a zoom_pagetxt.zdat file of 16Mb, which indexes all the documents, but next time it will produce a much smaller file which skips most of the documents. I have attempted to follow the advice in the various support FAQs but nothing has helped me so far. I get the same problem using v8 or version7.

The index log is the best place to start to troubleshoot. What does it say in the index log about the files that are being skipped?
