Exclusions

How do I exclude the indexing of everything except one directory. Also how do I then exclude the indexing of links on the pages.
Also, to the moderator. Since my other post vanished without explanation, if you don't like this one for some reason, please have the courtesy of telling me and I will find another search engine.
I don't wish to pay for something that I can't get working to my satisfaction.
