Give added weight to pages in a specified location

Hi there,
Hopefully this is an easy one.

My site has news and products, at the moment the news pages get ranked first as they mention the product names more, is there a way I can make my product pages appear first? Can I add additional weight based on the word product being in the url? Or maybe I need to add a meta tag that increases the rank of a page?
