We are needing our form search # friendly to our customers and potential customers. The way it is right now, they must type the full item # to find on our website. We need it to do partial #'s.

Is there an example of a java script that I can go by to use for our #'s?

After speaking with you on the phone, I thought of another option. Please see the original thread.

The use of java-script to validate or append the "*" to your search term can be an option, but may be out of your scope to implement. If using JavaScript, before the form parameters are passed you can validate (or basically alter) the parameter passed on to the search script.
