If the files are from Word and are not scanned documents, then there should be no need to OCR them.
If you set the document properties in Word, before creating the PDF, then this meta data should automatically be included in the PDF. At least this is the case with the Adobe writer.
But if you can set the meta data after creation this is also good. Or you can use .desc files to contain the meta data. See the users guide for details about .desc files.

what is the best method for preparing my pdf files to be indexed? should i run them through ocr? populate the meta data fields from within acrobat? i've got acrobat standard and nitropdf pro that i've used to author many of the files from the microsoft word source files.
