  • symbols and abbreviations issue

So, we have the search on a site that has phrases like "R & D".

But, when user search for R & D or "R & D", the & is stripped out and the engine searches for R and D separately.

How can I bypass this to allow & as a literal character? For that matter, any other type of abbreviation or symbol should be allowed (yes?)?

    thanks!

In the Zoom configuration window on the "indexing options" tab, you can check the "Ampersand" box.

This will force all words separated by an ampersand (&) to become a single word.

So R&D will be treated as a single word. As would Cats&Dogs.

But the use of the space character is always treated as a word separator (for obvious reasons). But even if you are writing R & D with spaces, searches should be successful, as the search for the word R and the word D should find pages (assuming you have allowed short words of 1 character in Zoom).
