Can the WORD plug in handle MS Properties?

Can the Word plug-in read the properties one can set in the document (title, author, date, etc.)? If so, can it also handle custom properties?

There is a check box in the Zoom configuration window called, "Use meta information from plug-ins when available".

If this option is checked and you are indexing Word documents then the following properties fields from the .DOC file will be indexed as meta data in addition to the main text of the document.

    Subject
    Title
    Keywords

Other meta data such as 'manager' and 'hyperlink base' are ignored. As are any custom fields you include.

      How about PDF files?
Can I get the PDF title and description to come up in the search results rather then the file name using the same method?

Yes. The PDF plug-in will read and use the meta data. Or if you can't change the meta data in the PDF you can also use a .DESC file. See the users guide for details about .DESC files.
