Plugin for Excel - Could not recognize XLS file format

I'm stumped

Zoom: 4.2
Build: 1000
OS: Windows2000
Excel: 2000

I cannot get an excel file indexed.

I have created a brand new excel file with test data (no password protection). A workmate created a test file from their workstation that resulted in the same error message. I went to an XP workstation and created a test file that failed. I also went to the microsoft website and pulled down a template excel file just as a final check that excel on the workstations wasn't the cause. It failed as well. I then began to suspect the plugin itself. The pdf and doc plugins were working just fine.

I downloaded a new copy of the plugin and from a dos prompt, I successfully got an ascii output using H:\website\xlhtml.exe test.xls. However, when I tried to execute it in the plugins directory under Program Files, it presented the following error message:

Update RE: Plugin for Excel......

My IT Support just advised me that they can get xlhtml.exe to run using their workstation administrator account on another workstation. They installed Zoom and all the plugins on another workstation moments ago, but could not execute the xlhtml.exe file under that user's workstation account.

It seems to be a permission problem where the program requires access to some other parts of the system.

From memory I think it is trying to write temporary files to the root directory. So this is probably your problem.

Not very polite behaviour I know. But this is the way it works at the moment. It does clean up after itself however, by deleting the temp files.

Good memory!

My IT Support used their admin access to change the permission on the root folder from Read to Modify access.

Tests were successful.
