HOW CAN I PUT SEARCH BOX in INDEX.HTML...

apart from the search_template how can i put searchbox withiiin the homepage? And one more How can i make the login name appear somewhere on the page after one has logged on? e.g. 'Welcome Brad'

The online help is not that comprehensive please help...im using PHP
