  • indexed & uploaded but search not returning expected res

I have indexed the whole site,(www.epollardmd.com) checked for skipped files and then checked search but results of new pages are not coming up.

example: earlobe repair. There is a whole page on this topic but no results appear.
Any idea why??? Thanks for any help here!

I assume the missing page is,
    http://www.epollardmd.com/earlobe.htm

Looking at your search function, I agree, this file in not in the index being used by the search function here,
    http://www.epollardmd.com/search.cgi

I indexed your web site with Zoom V4.2 build 1007 and the page does get found and indexed.
    15:22:06 - [DOWNLOAD] Downloading file http://www.epollardmd.com/earlobe.htm

    15:22:06 - [SCANNED] Scanning http://www.epollardmd.com/earlobe.htm

So to start with you should update from V4.0 that you are using to V4.2.

If this doesn't fix the problem then check, that you uploaded the new index files to the correct location on the server.

I asked your server what the date on the index files where. It told me,
    Last-Modified: Tue, 12 Apr 2005 02:12:29 GMT

Which would indicate that you haven't updated the search index files for 10 months.

not sure where to upload files

      Thanks for your help!

Clearly my files are not uploading to the right place. I had created a zoom folder so I tried again this morning and uploaded them where I had previously - straight to the html files. Now my search won't produce anything (page not foudn or similar error). Can you tell me what I am doing wrong???

I did update to 4.2 and I upload in php

Clearly my files are not uploading to the right place.
I agree this is the most likely explanation.

So after poking around on your web site, I can see that you appear to have (at least) two sets of index files on your server.

There is one set of index files in your root directory.

        Using CGI

There is another set of files in a sub directory called Zoom.

        Using PHP

You only need 1 set of index files. So you should decide where you want your files and delete one set of the other. (otherwise you will just be confused again in 6 months). You also appear to have switched scripting languages from CGI to PHP between the 2 sets. Again you should probably stick with one language to avoid confusion. Additionally you might also have a corrupted set of index data files in the root directory. (e.g. you just uploaded half the required files).

So to start cleaning up I would,
        1) Delete all the search related file in your root directory
        2) Change all search links to point to the new PHP search function.
        e.g.
        Change this HTML
        <form action="search.cgi" method="get" name="form1" target="_blank" id="form1">

        to this

        <form action="http://www.epollardmd.com/zoom/search.php" method="get" name="form1" target="_blank" id="form1">

        3) Fix up the template file here,
        http://www.epollardmd.com/zoom/search_template.html
so that is doesn't have broken links to your company logo images etc..

Now the basic stuff is working, further improvements could include,

            1) Giving each page on your web site a unique and meaningfult title. At the moment you have too many pages with exactly the same title.
            <title>Dr. Emily Pollard - Philadelphia Cosmetic Surgeon</title>

            2) Same comment for Meta data. Meta name="description" and meta name="keywords". At the moment you have the same description & keywords for multiple pages. So searching for a page by keywords will never work as well as it could.

            3) Filtering out of your page navigation so content like, "CONTACT US | HOME | ABOUT", doesn't appear in the search index. See this FAQ question for details.
            http://www.wrensoft.com/zoom/support....html#zoomstop

            4) Fix up or turn off search word logging. At the moment you get a (minor) error after each search.
"Unable to write to log file (./logs/searchwords.log). Check that you have specified the correct log filename in your Indexer settings and that you have the required file permissions set."
See this FAQ page for more details.
