This has been bothering me ever since I started using Zoom.
When I set the limits it checks how many pages or search words it can index against my system memory. Doesn't Zoom use the HD as a virtual buffer like, say, every other programme? Does it really keep the entire search in RAM?
My company does a lot of video editing, and we're now offering some training DVDs in a format that will play on our client's cell phones. So we have to downconvert the huge 8.5Gb DVD files to something with a 320x320 resolution, taking up more more than a single 256mb memory card.
The video encoding software has to deal with the 8.5Gb file, and there is only 2Gb of memory on the system the video is encoded on (which isn't really enough, but it works). How does it do it? It writes to the hard drive.
So what's up with Zoom? Why handle everything in memory?
