  • Suggestion - Recommended links enhancement

Recommended links is a really cool feature of Zoom and we love using it. The problem is the disconnect between the content people and the developer (me). I have our CMS set up so that the content people can tweak any aspect of the search results using the keywords, descriptions, and headings. But when they want to add a recommended link, they have to come to me. It would be really nice if there was an option to add recommended links on a page basis, by use of a special meta tag for example. I know we can import the links from a text file, but that still adds many steps to the process that could be avoided by doing it at the page level.

If other users are interested in a feature like this then we would consider adding it.

Thanks. I'm hoping others will jump in here.

It might help if I describe how we are using recommended links. It's not just for paid links! We use it to highlight certain pages that are almost certainly what the user is looking for in response to certain very common search words. Many corporations use this on their Web sites. For example, go to Microsoft's site and search for a common product like "SQL Server" for example. The search returns a very daunting list of over 6 million documents!

However, above the list of organic results you will see a highlighted section called "Editor's Choice." Some sites call it "Best Bets" or something similar. Users love it because even though there might be thousands or even millions of documents matching the search, chances are pretty good that the real answer they were looking for is at the top in the highlighted section.

Since other aspects of tweaking search results are part of the responsibility of the content team (via the keywords, titles, and descriptions meta data) it makes sense that they also have a similar way to configure the recommended links, by also manipulating meta data.

Thanks for considering this. I encourage any Zoom users out there who might be interested in this to chime in. Thanks!
