cgi not working with host, checked faqs

So, i can get the cgi script working on my local machine. However when it came to uploading my site i cant get the cgi for zoom working.

I'm in constant dialouge with my provider and they tell me all is is order on their side. Ive also got a 'hello world' cgi script running just to make sure all is well there.

Ive tried all versions of the script, windows, linux and bsd (however my host tells me i need to run linux)

All i know is im getting a 500 error. I'm all out of ideas. Please help.

btw i need to run the cgi version as im using the xml output.

It is just about always the case the CGI install problems are listing in the FAQ on troubleshooting the CGI. People tend not to read it properly however, or assume the bits they don't understand can't possibility be important.

What permissions did you set on the CGI file?
What hardware / OS version are you running on? (Linux can run on many different and obscure hardware)?
How did you upload the files?
What is the URL to the search function?

Needless to say, running the Windows software on Linux won't work.
