  • files skipped with "failed to delete..." error on XP

    Hi,

Ive just purchased the search engine software and very happy with how quick and comprehensive the performance is.

The first time I used the software to index files stored on our server everything worked fine. I am now finding that whenever I index my files, I get the following error:

"Failed to delete temporary plugin input file (System error: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. )
Failed to read plugin supported binary file"

This happens with every file that needs a plugin.

Now I know this question was answered for VISTA users but I am on XP and can not get around this.

    What ive tried:
1.Ive disabled indexing completely from services.
2.I have moved all files to an external hard drive and tried reindexing.
3.I have recreated a new profile for use with external drive.

None of the above have helped and I still get the error. The majority of files I need to index are being skipped. Is there anything else that you can suggest?

    regards

    Adeel.

It might be this issue related to the Vista indexing service and Antivirus programs locking files (on XP and Vista).

      fixed it!

      Hi,

none of the fixes suggested in the linked posts worked but I shut down the pc for a while. had a cup of tea and and came back to it fresh.

I tracked down the temporary file that Zoom creates, which for me was here C:\Documents and Settings\arshada\Local Settings\Application Data\Wrensoft\Zoom Search Engine Indexer.

I tried to delete the .in file and it wouldnt delete, which made sence now since the error was returning as 'Failed to delete temporary plugin input file'.

I did a search for a little free programme called unlocker and used that to force xp to release the file. it did and I re ran the indexer and problem solved

      hooray zoom search engine!

      Thanks!
