Search Form on Results Page

I have created a template for my results page with a search form in the left hand column. Hence I have no need for the search box that appears above the results.

I tried selected in "do not generate" option on the "search page" tab but this just stops the whole search template from being generated.

The "do not generate" option only effects the display of the search form when the search script executes. It has no effect on the search_template.html file.

If you are seeing some other behaviour can you post the URL to your search function so that we can see the problem.
