For those who are interested, the issues with Vista's Windows Indexing Service are described in this thread:
    http://www.wrensoft.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1942

The MP3 plugin should index the Artist field. However, you need to enable "Meta author" to be indexed on your "Indexing Options" tab of the Configuration window. See this FAQ for more details:
    Q. How do I index specific internal meta information?

    Report on new MP3Info

Just to let you know, I ran the new mp3 plugin which Raymond sent me earlier this week through a collection of 30GB of mp3s with no crashes on either Vista or XP, provided the Windows Index service is disabled from searching the relevant part of the directory tree.

I'm a little unsure which ID3 tag fields it is indexing, however. It seems to be scanning the title, album and comment, and one or two others, but not the artist field. Am I right about this?

    thanks,

    Andrew

Are you indexing in Spider Mode? It is likely that your MP3 files are not linked in a spider friendly manner (or simply not linked at all). Please see the following FAQ:
    Q. I am indexing with spider mode but it is not finding all the pages on my web site

    Mp3 Plugin Error #2

    Hi,

I maintain a website with hundreds of mp3's of a radio show. I already use Zoom Search for show descriptions but I wanted to add the ability to search the Mp3's. However, I'm having a problem with the Mp3 Plugin. The Plugin is installed and enabled but when I try to index my site I get:

    .mp3 indexed: 0

    Did I miss something????????

Anyway, glad to hear it's working fine in spider mode. But we do want to make sure there's no problem in offline mode either.

Yes, I edited the path to save room and http:// was added infront of www.

I shut down as much as possible, but these processes are still running when I run Zoom, do an offline mode index with mp3 files and get the error.

Hmm, but you can't actually create folders or filenames containing characters like colon and slashes. So I don't quite see how it is possible to get the following message whilst indexing in offline mode:

Did you retype/paraphrase the filename/URLs? Or did the http:// get automatically added by a text editor, the message board or something else?

Below is spider mode and it works fine.

I'm still getting the same errors in offline mode, but it really doesn't matter if spider mode is working. Yes, I'm only running 1 instance, which shows up as 2 processes in task manager.

I did not have any problems indexing those files. Using Zoom V5.0.1002, the latest MP3 plugin (17/Jan/2006), and indexing in Spider Mode.

But first, can you clarify if those log entries are from different index sessions? Please note that if you're looking at the log file written to disk, it is by default, appended to the file, which means that you may have cumulated several index sessions' worth of logs into the same file, and you may confuse a previous unsuccessful session as being the latest.

This part was probably the most unusual:

I presume you are indexing in Spider Mode. Yet I do not understand why the "Indexing..." message is referencing an offline file path (with an URL at the end). If you confirm that this is really what appears in your log, perhaps you can e-mail us a copy of your ZCFG file. You may have some particular settings enable that we're not forecasting.

    These messages indicate several possibilities:

    a) You may not have updated to the latest version of the MP3 plugin correctly. Make sure to download the latest ZIP file, and unzip this file to the "plugins" folder where Zoom is installed. This is usually "C:\Program Files\Zoom Search Engine 5.0\plugins\"

    b) Do you have multiple instances of the Zoom Indexer running? You can not do this, as the plugins do not like being called from multiple applications at the same time. This will cause problems like the "Failed to delete temporary plugin input file" error you see. Note that one single instance of Zoom Indexer shows up as two "ZoomIndexer.exe" entries in the Process list of the Task Manager window.

So the file 14_-_majesty_-_(goderich_harbouraires).mp3 did index correctly but the others didn't.

Are you sure you have downloaded the new version of the MP3 plug-in? Maybe you didn't copy the MP3Info.exe into the correct directory?

I tried indexing your MP3 file and it now OK for me. See,

    07:07:20 - [PLUGIN] Processing MP3 file C:\temp\14_-_majesty_-_(goderich_harbouraires).mp3
    07:07:20 - [INDEXED] Indexing C:\temp\14_-_majesty_-_(goderich_harbouraires).mp3

Or is this one now working for you as well and the problem is with a different file? Which one?

After updating to the latest version version: 5.0.1002 and downloading the lastest plugins mp3-audio-files_plugin (17/Jan/2007).

    Errors:
14:29:19 - [MP3 plugin error] Plugin incompatibility error
14:29:19 - MP3 plugin failed. File not scanned.
14:29:19 - Failed to delete temporary plugin input file (System error: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)

The third error is new (appearing after the last update). Also the third error only appeared for the 2nd>last mp3 file scanned.

This isn't an urgent problem. These are just small websites that don't really need an internal site search, but they are the first websites I'm designing/maintaining that will host mp3 files. I just wanted to test the mp3 plugin functionality and check for problems before a client truly needs the feature.

It is a bug in the MP3 plug-in. It will be fixed a part of the V5.0 build 1002 patch release, which should be ready next week. Around the 17/Jan/07.
